Windows OneCare Live and VPN Connectivity

Today I downloaded the new antivirus from Microsoft, OneCare Live. It looks pretty cool but itsn't just an antivirus program, it is like a security suite program. It comes also with a firewall a backup sofware and a tune-up service (just a marketing word for disk defragmentation, antivirus scan schedules and backup reminder :p).

OneCare Live is in Beta  and just installs on Windows XP SP 2. (I had to change my regional settings, It only works on English configurations).

After installing, it started to recognize all program that need Internet Connection and allowed them to connect. For those that didn't recognize it asked me what to do. At there everything was ok, the problem was when I tried to connect to the datacenter of one of my customers.

It looks like OneCare Live doesn't verify if the computer has VPN connections during installation so the VPN connections does not work after installation.

To configure OneCare Live for VPN connections  follow this steps:

1- Click on View or change settings.
2- Click on the Firewall tab.
3- Click on Advanced Settings button.
4- Click on Ports and Protocols tab.
5- Check the GRE box.
6- Click OK button.
7- Click OK button again.

That's all, you will be able to connect to VPNs again  =).
